Actually, when I made this design for phpBBModders, we wanted to implement a dropdown menu first. But guess who screwed that idea up?

There is never a reason to let IE win, not once have I backed down from an idea even though IE didn't like it.

If it doesn't validate strict anymore that's one thing, I can understand that being a prosilver style (since strict is the new fad now-a-days...)

Yea we just gave up, I spend time until the late hours of night to get it right..but it wouldn't work the way we wanted it..

Was the menu something you wrote up yourself? I just can't see you not being able to get it right, I've seen your work before.

There are tons of drop down menu's everywhere, if you're still interested in making it a drop down, I can help.

well it wasn't this menu.
It was a top menu with a border, and we wanted the border of the dropdown to flow into the menu border, but on the sides, the dropdown sticked out, so the borders wouldn't line up properly.
And the margin and such just wouldn't get it properly. And if it was in IE, then firefox gave it away..

Yea I've had plenty of issues with IE..

I would have just specified different code for diff browsers..

like ..

margin: 0 5px;
_margin: 0 0;

IE will see it and nothing else will..

It won't validate of course, but sometimes there's no other way

There's better tricks for IE-only css. Use *html.

Wait till you see what I have to do to the code to get IE6 to render the WF Mac Pro style... it's hideous but worth the look of the style. I still don't think prosilver was written to ever consider editing the style to something else. Just doesn't leave much window of oppertunity. So we hack it to death :>

Dude, I totally agree, IE sucks, more than text-only browsers. Hacking your CSS to suit IE mostly makes the CSS invalid, so I just give up on designing for IE anymore.
