What you need to decide is how much server do you need (cpu and RAM are the two biggest hardware concerns) and how much bandwidth you need (obviously) and how much hand-holding you need as far as managing the configuration. Some companies will be more active as far as managing the server, but you pay for it.

By standards your forum isnt very large, i would recommend a cheap shared hosting account until the posts hit around 100k.

Number of posts is only one measure of how big / active a board is. If you have a lot of concurrent users then you can end up needing a bigger box, even if the total number of posts is not that large.
