What do you think about the future of phpBB board software?

Here non-phpBB topics can be discussed.

What do you think about the future of phpBB board software?

Postby newsbee_2 » 22 Jan 2012, 10:16

I was reading http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... &t=2143698 but it is too technical for me, so I thought we might discuss the future of phpBB software here - in more layman's terms.

I have three forums, two in phpBB and one in MyBB. I've never run boards in vBulletin or Invision. Are there other board software packages worth considering? What do you think?

FWIW, I do think phpBB is falling behind other forum software with the biggest difference being the lack of a "module" system (upload the mod and no need to edit files). Then again I think the whole idea behind forum software is soon to go the way of the dodo bird due to facebook, etc.

I'm with rich on this one most ppl go to facebook and why ?

1 its free
2 any nub can create a group there
3 no setting any thing up that needs a brain cell

------------------------------------------------------------------------
phpbb needs a kick up the bum but i'm sure there get there in the end

I Can understand phpBB3 needs a "nub" feature to install mods ,addon's what ever have you ,but i don't see why people demand so many "Features" when its free ,it most be time consuming for developers of the software to commit so much time ,when i presume they also have a career in software development for the internet!!

I spend time at work and time on phpBB3 but ,work comes first ,and no one gets paid for phpBB3 development its a contribution towards the software and and the love of coding with in phpBB3

My penny spent.

Look forward to phpBB4 ,as that's where everybody thinks phpBB3 should be at!

PS. Does any one want too pay for phpBB3 software?

We'll have to choose from among other board software packages on the market.

I have one board on MyBB and it has quite a few mods, in fact. Depends what you want, a board for users, or a board to play with for yourself ;)
