i've seen the preview or test site of phpbb3 don't remember which one, had admin access...etc to view the new "features" and i liked it, and hey, are they using afterlife's simple colored usergroups in phpbb3? haha and i agree with Saeru, i do exactly the same haha

i tested phpbb3, its very very nice, administration is alot like IPB, has alot of features installed, 1st thing i loved is the global moderator, so yea, when the final is released, lol phpbb is going to get more popular

Well i didn't notice much difference, but i havn't tested it that much to find many bugs anyway. According to the announcement there are about 300 bugs fixed though since beta2!

It's feature-frozen. Well officially anyway. There won't be any real new features for version 3.

As far as I can tell, they added the utf-8 support. That's the only major difference. Sorry for being a bit late on this topic.

phpBB3 is fantasic!! I love it. The new permissions system is just ace.

It looks nice but I have most of it and more with phpbb2. Over 100 mods worth but right now it has what I want ^^;

The advantage of 3 is they are standard and built in and support thus can be obtained easily for it.

Indeed. Although if you're not careful, the support folks over there will get really angry if you mention you're using it in a live forum. Not to mention the upgrade process from 2 > 3 I would imagine is pretty difficult.
