A better method (and this is a suggestion) is to use what is already present to notify the user; it may be worth considering "highlighting" the navigation bar on the top when there are new messages present. Using a different color set for the navigation bar would catch the user's attention...

I think I may have caused this, inadvertently.

Uploads would be extremely difficult to secure, which is why I don't have that built-in. Too easy to create a vulnerability with that.

As for categories, not sure why that would be necessary...just use subfolders.

I do believe there's a hook in the [url=http://phpbbmodders.net/board/viewforum.php?f=94]library[/url] that does this, as well.
