Right! This is exactly what I've replied to them. I suspect this happened when I was re-indexing my search from the ACP. It took half night for the processes to complete. I have 10,000 users and more than 200,000 posts.

http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=998431

Why haven't you done as stated in that thread?

http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showpost. ... ostcount=3

I am not a server admin either but I would hope that they can give you more information than that and it makes sense that if you were re-indexing your search it would cause a spike on server resources.

I would move to a decent/better host if it were me as they can not seem to give adequate responses to issues they bring up.

Well, I've moved part of my database (knowledge base, which is responsible for many queries) to another host. And looking around where to land. Problem is it is very hard to move a large database to another host because of restrictions on file sizes in myphpadmin. Plus I'm a &^%^$# journalist by training, not a programmer ;)

I'm sick and tired of AT&T... Same problems again - for no reason, as far as I can see - http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... &t=2141149. Ready to move to a dedicated server.

Did some trial DB dumping/restoring - and failed. BigDump doesn't work. I can store the database, but I can't move it despite the description on the phpbb site on how to do it. Do you guys know if I need root access to use the mysqldump command in SSH? I have root access on the current server, but I want to buy a managed dedicated one next. (In case you click on my website, it is not the one that is in my profile).

Hosts can be a pain :D why not decide to host the site your self ? easy to do (something to think about)

i found it much better when i had a site (don't have one right now but is planning on it)

all you need is xampp set up right (php.ini) a dedicated pc to be on 24/7 and if you live where the power drops out get a ups :D oh and an isp that gives you unlimited bandwidth :D

Not sure hosting on your own PC is the best option really, home Internet is usually low on the upload speed, if your site is slow no-one will use it

24 meg download and my upload is good enough to run a mp3 site where member's upload there mp3's 20 files at a time :D but i think we are going off topic here the OP can install xampp and see for him self if he can host

While I'm finalizing relations with a new host, where I plan to move as soon as they install a server for me, I got a disqueting message from my yet current host. Not to overload your board with long entries, the message is here: http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... #p13062637

Now i'm worried that I might have screwed up the database and my migration will result in zero. :(

PS. Its funny, but everything worked smoothly for the past year when I first reported the issue. Now the same issue and this time - I promise - I'm moving to a new host.

Newsbee, that's not EVERY host is it? They or most are set up differently.

I've dropped AT&T and now with JaguarPC. The first experience is positive. They moved my entire site with the discussion board and DB - 3 GiG all in all. I don't like the cost (its a dedicated server, and I'm moving some small sites there as well), but I'm trying to streamline my ads - mostly Google. For now Google ads pay for half. Need to improve.
