Re: More Traffic On Website
They say "content is king". I am not aware of any "magic wand" type of stuff you can do to increase traffic flow.

Re: More Traffic On Website
Content, people linking to you, good keywords and time (lots of it) helps your Google Ranking. Took me a year to get back to my current traffic levels/Google placement after the domain name fiasco
Re: More Traffic On Website
I had no problem getting a #1 ranking with Google for the SITE...but my forums,,, nya. Tiny town and hard to convince people to try it. Community specific content is a tough one to run with I have found out.
Re: More Traffic On Website
Well, Ooopsie, I tried to register at your forum, but you said .ru address is from spammers, so I wasn't able to. Minus one user
Re: More Traffic On Website
I'll fix it but I am careful with the RU addresses. Be fixed in a few. Had some issues a few months back and never fixed it...forgot about it. There is also a contact link at the top.
Re: More Traffic On Website
I used to have problems with gmail.com, some .de addresses and comcast. But I've introduced extra profile fields and have visual captcha to stop potential robot spammers.
As to having more traffic to a website, it is always a gamble. I have lots of people registering for my automobile forum, but can't get enough members for meaningful discussions at a local board (one district in Moscow). It is hard to catch the trend.
Content is important, as they say, but content is everywhere. Imho it is more important to build a home for visitors where they find it comfortable to chat and exhange news and views.

My board is one of the tougher ones to build. It is community an vacation based. We are a very well known town for rock climbing and it is very hard to get the locals involved but it is very slowly coming around. It'll take 3 years I think.
A few years ago I gave a board a try and got frustrated in a month and shut it down.

What a name for a town!
You need five active people to start discussions. Don't you think it is too early to start asking for donations at your board? I don't think users think the hidden parts of your board contain valuable information for which they should pay. Nor do they care much about "It costs considerable time and money to keep IndexWa.org updated..."
I'd put Google Adsense ads, if you have many hits, which might cover the cost of hosting.

Wouldn't even waste your time with Google Adsense, as soon as you get any returns they'll close down your account with no explanation, Speaking from personal experience and you'll see it happens to many many many people if you Google it up.
I've yet to find a way to cover hosting costs that actually works.

Which one is dead?
Re: More Traffic On Website
Understood. I've deleted that forum.
Ooopsie, have you tried to improve the SEO of your discussion board? It also helps to have a text/lite version to improve search results. Another thing, it is not good to have lots of empty subforum, unless you plan to fill them up with your own posts soon. Empty forums create the impression the board is abandoned.
