If you have made no changes on your board since between your posts (the 5th and the 14th) then best guess would be, it's your HOST. Where else could it be if all was well on the 5th through yesterday? I thought it probably was the host just was looking for input for the phpbb guru's before pursuing...

You have edited the language/en/common.php file with an editor that has inserted what is known as a BOM (Byte Order Mark). Re edit the file with a strict text editor, such as notepad++, and save it as UTF-8 without BOM. this might be bit off topic on this thread, but I may have just found the answe...
