Css : max-width: 350px !important; may work, but mchat uses a jq feature to expand the input area whilst typing so i don't know if it will work via css ...

You need to purge chromes cache (found under tools).

ohh thanks, now working!

Width in Chrome Inspector still is auto but on the page, width doesn't change.
