backwards compatible with PHPBB2

Is PHPBB3 backwards compatible with PHPBB2? I have a forum running and I see how some sites have a lot of add-ons etc for PHPBB2 than PHPBB3 but I am not sure if these things will work for #3 or is #3 backwards compatible with #2? I don't want to mess anything up. Thanks.

No phpBB3 is not backwards compatible with phpBB2
