The phpBB Security mod is very badly coded. Most of the code is not readable for outsiders.
The Cracker Tracker mod is from an author who sometimes doesn't know exactly what he is doing, making a lot of releases for a lot of smaller bugs.

But the biggest problem is that these mods give you a feeling that you're board safe, but that in reality you're board is not. Installing only mods that are properly checked and updated when needed and staying up to date with the phpBB version is much more helpfully.

Besides, most of the "attack" they block, have no sense on new phpBB board, mainly older pre phpBB 2.0.12 boards.
