recent topic, Blog and article in Index page

hi, how could I have recent topic, blogs and article in my forum index page?
I see this block in your home page and I want to know how could I do something like this?

You can't just put it in and expect it to work perfectly. You have to edit it a little to get it how you need it to be included, etc. I don't have much time, so I just got you the basic code. I thought it would be better than nothing

I'm wondering if it is possible to include part (limited to x characters or w/e) or all of the topic description under the title of each topic.
